Her passion for understanding people led her to study Psychology at the University of Washington.

Upon retiring in 2013, Alene embarked on a journey to uncover a long-standing family mystery—the disappearance of her great-grand aunt Beatrice, a well-to-do young widow who vanished in 1919 after marrying a gentleman she met on a train. What began as a personal quest soon evolved into the discovery of an incredible true crime story involving a serial killer at the turn of the 20th century.
